Marquette Catholic Advances To State Basketball Semi-Finals

The top ranked, top seed Bellevue Marquette Catholic Defenders advanced to the Class 1-A state semifinals with a hard fought 64-54 victory against Remsen Saint Mary’s to keep hope alive for the first state boys basketball championship in school history. A great 2nd quarter saw the Defenders outscore the Hawks 14 to 5 to take a 9 point lead at halftime, but St. Mary’s went on an 11-0 run early in the 3rd quarter to take the lead, but Marquette Catholic answered the run and closed out the quarter with a 41-36 lead and carried that momentum into the 4th quarter for the 10 point victory.

 The Defenders were led by Spencer Roeder with 28 points. Marquette Catholic with a record of (26-1) will meet 6th ranked (23-3) Gladbrook Reinbeck in the semi-finals at 5:30 Thursday night.
