A Dubuque man has been sentenced of up to five years in prison.43 year old Demetris L. Ross received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to eluding and operating while under the influence.
Multiple charges including possession of contraband in a correctional institution, possession of marijuana, criminal mischief and eluding were dismissed per a plea agreement. The charges were the result of a November 27, 2024 incident in which court documents say that Dubuque police attempted to stop Ross’ vehicle just after midnight. As an officer approached Ross to have him exit his vehicle, Ross “intentionally backed his vehicle,” causing it to strike a Dubuque Police Department patrol vehicle. Ross then fled at a high rate of speed. Officers gave chase and attempted another traffic stop. A rolling roadblock technique was eventually used to end the pursuit on U.S. 61 near Zwingle.
