The Dubuque Metro Area Solid Waste Agency says over two tons of unwanted Christmas lights were collected during its program to recycle unwanted holiday lights. The official total collected was 4700 pounds which otherwise would have went into the landfill.
The program had four drop off sights in the county available from mid-November to January 10th. This was the sixth year for the collection program which now has collected a total 21,000 pounds of unwanted lights.
Agency officials say if you still have unwanted lights, they can be recycled year round at the Regional Collection Center at the landfill. Scheduling and appointment is necessary.
