In a special election yesterday in Iowa Senate District 35 which includes a portion of Jackson County, Democrat Mike Zimmer of Dewitt defeated Republican Katie Whittington of Clinton. Unofficially, Zimmer earned 53.1 percent of the vote.
The seat was open after Republican Chris Cournoyer was named Iowa Lieutenant Governor by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. Zimmer will complete the remainder of Cournoyer’s term which ends in December 2026.
