A Florida woman has been sentenced for her part in a fraudulent check cashing scheme in the area.

34-year old Sarethya Downing will serve five years of probation for the incidents which occurred last year.  Downing entered an Alford plea to charges of possession of stolen property and aiding and abetting of a felony. Another charge of first-degree fraudulent practice was thrown out.

Downing was charged in August of 2023 after a police investigation into a report of check fraud at a DuTrac Community Credit Union branch.  The investigation uncovered over $11-thousand dollars in fraudulent checks cashed at DuTrac branches in and outside Dubuque.
