Former Dubuque Fighting Saints Great Johnny Gaudreau Dies

Shocking news today as former Dubuque Fighting Saints and Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew died in a bike accident last night.

Authorities say the brothers were killed while biking last night in Oldmans Township, New Jersey when they were hit by a car.  The New Jersey state police say the Gaudreau brothers died after a suspected drunk driver crashed into them as they biked along a rural road.

The 31 year old Gaudreau was the team’s top forward after signing in July 2022 as an unrestricted free agent.

Gaudreau starred for the Fighting Saints in their Clark Cup championship season in 2010-11 before playing collegiately at Boston College where in 2014 he was the Hobey Baker Award winner as the top collegiate hockey player.

Johnny Hockey was getting ready for his 12th NHL Season, he was a 7 time all-star in his 11 year NHL career starting with the Calgary Flames.

In 2018,Gaudreau purchased a stake in the Fighting Saints who are grieving his loss in a statement saying they are devastated and tremendously saddened by the loss of Johnny and his brother Matthew.
