The National Weather Service says you will need to be weather aware on Monday afternoon and evening as a powerful storm system is expected to cause a severe weather event which appears to have the Tri-State area in the middle of the bullseye for potentially the worst of the storms.

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded most of the listening area including Dubuque and areas northwest of Highway 151 to a Moderate Risk for Severe Weather, or level 4 of 5 Severe Risk. Damaging winds, heavy rain, large hail, and large tornadoes are all possible.

Officials say it’s a good idea to prepare ahead of time by having emergency supplies on hand, know your safe places and make sure you have several ways you can receive potential weather warnings.
