Dubuque Firefighters responded to a house fire on Saturday afternoon. Fire crews were called to 751 Alta Vista around 12:30 after a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report smoke coming from the home.
New tenants were moving into the home but were away at the time of the fire. There were no injuries, however a dog died due to smoke inhalation.
The fire was determined to be accidental due to moving boxes placed on top of the stove with a knob pushed on. Losses were estimated at $30-thousand dollars. The home was determined to be unlivable and the people who were moving in reportedly were able to make other living arrangements.
