California Man Faces Possible Life In Prison For Distributing Methamphetamine in Dubuque

A California man who conspired to distribute methamphetamine in Dubuque pled guilty Thursday in federal court in Cedar Rapids.

29-year old Juan Ruiz admitted between January and December of 2021, he worked with others in distributing the drug in the area. In December 2021, he was arrested during a traffic stop in Colorado where officers found over 25 pounds of ice meth in his vehicle and found out he was heading to Dubuque with the drug.

When sentenced, Ruiz now faces up to life in prison with a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison without parole, up to a $10-million dollar fine, and a lifetime of supervised release following any imprisonment.
