Ribbon-cutting For $1.6M Solar + Battery Project At Southwest Tech On Thursday

NEWS WISCONSIN

On Thursday, Southwest Wisconsin Technical College and energy solutions provider Ameresco will celebrate a groundbreaking for a new solar array and battery energy storage system on campus.

The $1.6 million project is designed to offset approximately 60 percent of the electricity used in Building 400—one of the most active facilities during the summer months. The project is expected to reduce utility costs by approximately $30-thosand dollars per year and provide critical backup power to the Student Services building in the event of an outage.

This is the first solar and storage system of its kind on campus and will serve as a hands-on learning opportunity for students and apprentices interested in careers in renewable energy and sustainability.

The Groundbreaking ceremony will be Thursday afternoon at 5:15 on the Southwest Tech campus in Fennimore.
