A Dubuque Community Schools task force is proposing another bond referendum vote for the construction of a new middle school facility in order to combine Jefferson and Washington middle schools into one building.
The Telegraph Herald reports during a public information session last night, the task force recommended the district seek voter approval this fall for a $70-million dollar bond to build a new middle school at the current site of Washington Middle School.
In 2023, Dubuque Community School District voters narrowly rejected an up-to-$150 million bond to fund multiple projects including building the new middle school.
District officials say going to two middle schools would save around $ 2 million dollars annually.
