The Dubuque Community School Board has approved a nearly $184 million dollar budget for the coming fiscal year. Monday night, the board voted unanimously in favor of the budget which will see a slight increase in the school district portion of property taxes residents pay. The property tax rate of about $13.05 per $1,000 of taxable valuation is an increase from the current $13 dollar per thousand.
School officials say the district’s shrinking enrollment and continued lower-than-desired levels of state aid were factors in need a higher tax asking.
Board members noted the new levy rate still is the second-lowest among eight Iowa districts of similar size.
