Later this month, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting a ground breaking ceremony for the Lower Pool 10 restoration project. The ceremony will be on Tuesday afternoon, April 22nd at 1 o’clock at the North Gazebo in Guttenberg.
The $11-million dollar project, part of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration program, will target South Ferry Slough aiming to restore and enhance quality habitat for native and desirable floodplain species.
Record flood events along with wind and wave action have caused many of the natural islands bordering the navigation channel and extending into the backwaters to erode and are disappearing.
