Man Shot And Wounded In Jackson Co. Burglary Charged

The Jackson County Sheriff have identified the man shot during a reported burglary earlier this week and he also has been charged by authorities.

The Sheriff’s Office reports 25-year old Mitchell Hankemeier of rural Maquoketa is charged with first-degree burglary, obstruction of emergency communications and domestic assault — impeding air/blood flow.  Hankemeier was seriously wounded by gun shots in the incident and was airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City for treatment.

Following a 9-1-1 emergency call Tuesday afternoon, deputies were sent to a rural Maquoketa home on the report of a burglary, in route they were notified a man, now identified as Hankemeier had been shot.
