Our coverage partner KCRG reports a Peosta man was sentenced this week to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a scheme to claim insurance money for stolen Rolex watches.
33-year old Bryce Murphy pled guilty to Insurance Fraud and Fraudulent Practice. Murphy was arrested in June 2023. Investigators said he had provided false information to an insurance company, claiming two Rolex watches were stolen from his hotel room while he was at an NFL game.
However, investigators say it was discovered Murphy had previously filed a similar claim in 2019 with a different insurance company, and received a payout of nearly $10,000 for it.
Investigators determined the purchase receipt provided by Murphy had been fabricated, and the Rolex watches were counterfeit.
