Dubuque County is asking for a jury trial to settle a lawsuit between the county and City of Dyersville over half a million dollars stolen in a fraudulent transfer scheme.
In November Dyersville announced they were suing the county in order to attempt to get the funds from the American Rescue Plan Act they were promised to use on the Field of Dreams project.
In November of 2023, while Dyersville was expecting over $500,000, a third party sent an email claiming to be from Dyersville’s City Clerk, requesting a transfer of the money, even though previous payments were made via paper check.
The county claims they got a legitimate email requesting the transfer but were unaware the funds went to an out-of-state bank. They deny not taking action to try and verify the transfer.
