Dubuque Pets in City Parks Latest

Eagle Point Park

Dubuque residents continued to debate whether to allow dogs in Eagle Point and Murphy parks. Tuesday evening 10 spoke at the monthly Parks & Recreation Commission meeting and Dubuque City Hall has received over 150 written opinions. According to the Telegraph Herald, the combined nays outnumbered the yeas, 93 to 71, but the close divide among citizens led the advisory board to hold off on making its recommendation until its April meeting.
Dubuque had long banned pets from its parks, but in 2020 the restriction was lifted to allow leashed animals in the vast majority of city parks. The ban remains for several recreational areas including the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, Bunker Hill Golf Course, the two municipal swimming pools and two of the most-popular large parks — Murphy and Eagle Point.
