Bellevue Marquette Catholic Begins Quest For State Title

This afternoon the Bellevue Marquette Catholic Defenders will begin play in the Class 1-A quarterfinals at the Iowa High School State Boys Basketball Tournament in Des Moines. 

The Marquette Catholic Defenders will be making their 2nd straight state tournament appearance and the 10th in school history when they take the floor at Wells Fargo Arena today against Saint Mary’s Remsen.  

The defending State Runner Up last year, the Defenders have been top ranked all season long with the number one seed in the tournament and are on a mission to claim the first state championship for the program. Marquette Catholic has a record of 25-and-1 with the only loss in the second to last game of the regular season against Class 4A Dubuque Senior.  The Saint Mary’s Hawks are unranked and 21-4 as the number 8 seed upsetting 5th ranked ACGC in the substate final to get to the tournament for the 8th time in the last nine seasons.  The winner will play North Linn or Gladbrook Reinbeck in the semi-finals on Thursday evening.
