A Dubuque woman has taken a plea deal in a case regarding her two-month-old daughter’s death. 25-year old Valessa Matlock has pleaded guilty to Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person and will be sentenced at a later date. The State is recommending a 10-year prison sentence.
In June of 2023, Matlock’s two month old son was found unresponsive at her home and was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Matlock was arrested by Dubuque Police and charged following an investigation.
