Regional Semi-Finals are Friday night

 

Girls Basketball

A memorable season for the Maquoketa girls basketball season came to a close yesterday in the Class 4A quarterfinals at the state tournament in Des Moines. 3rd ranked Maquoketa, making their first girls state tournament appearance in school history fell to #6 Dallas Center –Grimes 49-44 to finish the season at 21-3.

Tomorrow afternoon in Class 3A, Wahlert Catholic will be making the programs second appearance in a state semi-final game.  The 2nd ranked Golden Eagles will tangle with 3rd ranked Williamsburg for a trip to Friday night’s championship game. Game time is scheduled for 3:15, with pregame coverage on AM 1370 at 3 tomorrow afternoon.  Girls State Tournament basketball is presented by Gold Trophy Sponsor Fidelity Bank and Trust.

Men’s Basketball

AMES, Iowa – No. 10 Iowa State (22-8, 12-7 Big 12) dropped a heartbreaker, seeing its 21-point second-half rally fall short against No. 23 BYU (22-8, 13-6 Big 12) in double overtime. The Cyclones, who were celebrating Senior Night in the home finale, fell to the Cougars, 88-85.

Five Cyclones finished in double figures on the night, with Joshua Jefferson leading the way with 19 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Iowa State forced 29 Cougar turnovers, which helped power the 21-point comeback. BYU was able to keep the Cyclones away with timely rebounds, though, handling ISU on the glass with a staggering rebound margin of 52-24.
