City Council To Set Public Hearing Date For Proposed Downtown Development

Dubuque Historic Federal Building

The Dubuque City Council will meet tomorrow evening (tonight). One of the items the council has on their agenda is to set a public hearing date for a proposed development agreement which would see a new 5-story downtown building offering storefront retail and 80 market-rate apartments, plus indoor parking.

Gronen Construction is proposing to purchase a city parking lot at 5th and Main Streets and construct the building which could provide homes for students at the proposed University of Dubuque John and Alice Butler College of Osteopathic Medicine which just announced the purchase of a building downtown for the school.

If approved, Gronen says it plans to break ground on the project in the spring of 2026.
