The University of Dubuque has announced the purchase of a building in downtown Dubuque to locate its proposed John and Alice Butler College of Osteopathic Medicine.
U-D says the location purchased is the three-story, 117-thousand-square-foot brick building at 500 Main Street adjacent to the Town Clock Plaza and was the former home to Prudential-Financial.
This past December, UD announced it was officially moving forward with the required approvals and programmatic accreditation process to open a four-year medical school named in recognition of a $60 million gift from John and Alice Butler.
School officials say preconstruction on the building will begin next week with the renovation expected to start in September. The anticipated completion date is December 2026.
