Iowa High School State Wrestling From Thursday

Following day two of the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, two area wrestlers have survived to remain on the championship side of the bracket and will wrestle in state semi-final matches today.

In Class 3A: Hempstead 106 pounder Abe Heysinger will be in a semi-final match this morning facing Cruz Gannon of Dowling Catholic for a spot in the state championship match

In Class 1A: defending state runner-up Brock Morris of Cascade advanced to the semi-finals at 132 and this afternoon will wrestling Drew Anderson of Riverside in an attempt to get back to the championship match.

A total of 7 Hempstead and Western Dubuque wrestlers will be in action this morning in the 3A consolation round seeking wins which would guarantee them a medal.

 In Class 2A last night all three Wahlert wrestlers lost in the consolation round and fell out of the tournament. Maquoketa wrestler Tayden Howell will be in the wrestle back round tonight after losing in the quarterfinals.

Also in Class 1A this afternoon: Jake Hiland of Bellevue and Preston Hunter of Beckman Catholic have consolation round matches this afternoon.
