The Grant County Sheriff’s Department is grieving the loss of one of its corrections officers in a tragic accident from over the weekend.
Sheriff Craig Reukauf says County Correctional Officer (Jailer) Dylan Bellamy died Saturday after being struck by a motor vehicle while walking along the highway near Mattoon, Illinois.
Bellamy was also a member of the Army National Guard, and was in Illinois for a training weekend. The accident is still under investigation.
Bellamy had been with the Grant County Sheriff’s Department since December 2023.
