Dubuque Man Sentenced For Having Improvised Explosive Device

jail prison sentence arrest

A Dubuque man will be spending five years in prison for having an improvised explosive device.

32-year old Timothy Gremmel was sentenced following a guilty plea to a charge of one count of unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon.

In August Dubuque Police arrested Gremmel during a traffic stop. In the vehicle, officers found a cylinder-shaped item wrapped with electrical tape with a green fuse.  An investigation showed within the layers of tape were 77 metal stick sparklers. Gremmel told police the device was a “sparkler bomb” he created in July that he planned to detonate on a farm.
