Due to the extremely dry conditions, Dubuque County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Berger says the county has requested the State Fire Marshall enact a ban on opening burning effective immediately in Dubuque County.
Fire departments in the county have seen an increase in grass, brush, and field fires in the past two weeks which have at times threatened nearby structures. The ban will be in effect until conditions improve and the ban is lifted by Dubuque County Fire Chiefs.
Exceptions to the burn ban are the use of outdoor fireplaces, barbeque grills or the burning of trash in incinerators or trash burners made of metal, concrete or masonry, with no openings greater than one square inch.
