A Dubuque man has been sentenced to prison time for threatening police officers with a pot of boiling oil.

43-year old Kurtis Kies has been sentenced to five years in prison after agreeing to plead guilty to one count of interference with official acts with intent to cause serious injury. In exchange for the plea agreement, two other charges against him were dismissed.

Kies was arrested following the incident in late October at the apartment building he lived at. According to court records, police went there to serve a warrant; Kies refused to give up to authorities and threw a pan at one officer. When officers made entry into his apartment, Kies took the pot of boiling oil off the stove in his kitchen and was going to attempt to throw it at police,  a Taser was then used to make the arrest.
