Dubuque Community School officials are considering the closure of one of the district’s elementary school in a cost saving move.
The Telegraph Herald reports the recommendation to consider closing Hoover Elementary was made by Superintendent Amy Hawkins during a meeting of the school board’s educational programs and policy committee this week.
District officials say the move would save around one million dollars per year in staffing costs; however Hoover staff would likely be moved to other positions within the district.
Declining enrollment at Hoover was also named as reason to close the school.
