(KCRG) – A teenager was shot by two Dubuque police officers after they say he displayed a knife when they went to arrest him on Tuesday. Police said they responded to the 800 block of Alpine around 11:50 on Tuesday morning for a report of a 16-year-old suspect who had adult warrants out for his arrest. The teen fled on foot when officers tried to make contact. The police department said the suspect displayed a knife during the encounter and two officers fired their guns, hitting the teen in the arm and the shoulder. The officers then administered medical treatment on the teen who was then taken to the hospital. The two officers involved in the incident have been placed on critical incident leave, in accordance with standard department policy. The department has requested an investigation from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations.
