Mayor Cavanaugh On U-D Medical School Announcement

Earlier this month, the University of Dubuque announced plans to open the first new medical school in Iowa in over 125 years. The University says it is considering a few downtown Dubuque sites to serves as home for the John and Alice Butler College of Osteopathic Medicine with a target date of 2028 for the inaugural class. Dubuque Mayor Brad Cavanaugh recognized the generous gift of the Butler’s to U-D to help make it happen. Mayor Cavanaugh says plans for the new medical school, the continued development on Schmitt Island in the Port of Dubuque, at the Field of Dreams in nearby Dyersville, and traffic improvements in downtown Dubuque all have him excited.University leaders say the medical school will bring needed support to the physician workforce as well as provide an economic benefit to Dubuque and the tristate area.
