Paul Gorrell And John Powers Posthumously Inducted To Special Olympics Iowa Hall of Fame

Two Dubuque men have been posthumously inducted in the Special Olympics Iowa Hall of Fame.  The late Paul Gorrell and John Powers were among 10 people inducted during ceremonies on December 12th in West Des Moines.

Gorrell was the driving force to organize the first ever Special Olympics Iowa Winter Games in Dubuque nearly 40 years ago and served on the planning committee for the event for decades before he passed away in 2017.

Powers was a coach and delegation manager for the Dubuque Adults Special Olympic delegation, now known as the Dubuque Packers, for 17-years. He was named the Iowa Coach of the Year in 2013. Powers passed away in 2014.
