Iowa Shotgun Deer Season Begins This Weekend

HUNTER SAFETY

This weekend, Shotgun season for Deer in Iowa begins with thousands of hunters expected to make the most of the window.

The first window is from Dec. 7 through 11 then Dec. 14 through 22.

In a typical year, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says roughly 100,000 Iowans go hunting during the shotgun season. With so many people in the field, safety is the primary concern for hunters.

Under Iowa law hunters must wear blaze orange while in the field. The DNR also urges hunters to avoid pulling the trigger until they’re certain of what’s behind their target.

The DNR’s website has a variety of resources for people interested in hunting this season, from rules and regulations to how to get a license.
