The Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary are celebrating the congregation’s 150th anniversary of their foundation in Dubuque. Today, they are holding a special opening celebration to commemorate the anniversary, and Saturday an open house per invitation.
The Sisters of the Presentation started in 1874 when Mother Vincent Hennessy answered the call of Bishop John Hennessy to journey to Dubuque to educate the growing Catholic immigrant population.
Upon arriving in Dubuque, the sisters’ initial focus was educating impoverished immigrant children in Iowa. Today, their ministry extends far beyond traditional classrooms as they embrace diverse forms of educational outreach.
The Sisters of the Presentation will be hosting many events over the next year to celebrate their 150th anniversary.
