Coalition Launches Campaign To Stop Proposed Cedar Rapids Casino

NEWS IOWA

A grassroots coalition called Iowans for Common Sense says it is launching a campaign to stop a proposed casino from coming to Cedar Rapids. The campaign includes an ad that is currently airing in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. It asks Iowans to oppose the casino, inviting residents to sign a petition supporting a statewide moratorium on new casinos.

Q-Casino CEO Alex Dixon who is a member of the coalition, told our coverage partner KCRG a new casino in Cedar Rapids would be trouble for the Dubuque area.

Dixon says in opposing the casino he is looking out for Dubuque’s best interest.

‘Iowans for Common Sense’ reference a poll they say shows nearly two-thirds of Iowans oppose a new casino.

A decision on whether or not the proposed $275 million casino complex can go forward is expected in February.
