The prosecution rested yesterday in the 1st degree intentional homicide trial of a northwest Illinois woman charged in the death of her husband’s grandmother in Benton, Wisconsin last year.
In February 2023, 31-year old Shannon Bussan was arrested following the death of 83-year old Lynne Montgomery. Montgomery was found unresponsive at her home; Bussan was then arrested following a nearly two week investigation into the death. Authorities claim Bussan killed her as part of a plot to take money that Montgomery kept in a safe.
Prosecutors called 25 witnesses to the stand since the trial started on Monday before resting yesterday.
The defense, which is arguing Montgomery died of natural causes, is expected to call its remaining witnesses this morning ahead of closing arguments. The case then will go to the jury for deliberation.
