Dubuque City Council Meeting

Dubuque Historic Federal Building

The Dubuque City Council met for city business Monday night.

The council approved awarding a contract for the demolition and grading of the old greyhound kennels near Q Casino on Schmitt Island to help prepare for the building of the amphitheater project.  The contract  which was approved unanimously was awarded to Eastern Iowa Excavating of Cascade and came in nearly 20 percent under budget at $820-thousand dollars.

In another action, the council unanimously approved a new agreement between FEMA and the state of Iowa to replace the aging pumps located along Kerper Boulevard.  The pumps which are nearly 70 years old are used to pump water from the Bee Branch basin when the Mississippi River levels are high.  The cost of the project is just over $27-million dollars of which the city is responsible for nearly 11-million funded mainly by local sales tax revenue and other sources.

Construction would begin this spring after the contract is awarded later this year.
