The Galena – Jo Daviess County Historical Society has received a substantial grant funding for the new Galena & U.S. Grant Museum project planned.
The project was recently awarded a $450,000 tourism attraction matching grant in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Illinois Office of Tourism.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services Save America’s Treasures grant, also has awarded a matching grant of $576-thousand for collection care toward the future exhibit cases, archival storage, and artifact moving expenses.
The project needs to raise approximately $3.5 million to complete the $10.3 million capital campaign project.
The Historical Society is hopeful construction can begin this spring.
