Last night the Dubuque City Council started the ball rolling for work to be able to begin for the Iowa Amphitheater on Schmitt Island.
Following a public hearing the council approved sending the first phase of the project out for bid which would include demolition of the old Greyhound Park dog kennels site and grading at an estimated cost of 1.1 million dollars.
This work would then pave the way for the second phase of the project which would be the eventual construction of the amphitheater which is estimated to be at a cost of 14-million dollars. This phase of the project would be sent out for bid at a later date. The amphitheater would be able to seat crowds of over eight thousand people for events.
