Dubuque Council Discussing Amphitheater Tonight

Dubuque Historic Federal Building

The Dubuque City Council meets at 6:30 this evening at the Historic Federal Building.  Among items on the agenda:

There will be a public hearing regarding plans for the Iowa Amphitheater on Schmitt Island.  The plans call for demolition of the dog kennels and grading the site over the winter at a cost of around 1.5 million dollars.

The work would pave the way for the eventual construction of the amphitheater which could seat crowds of over 8-thousand people for events.  The cost is estimated to be 14-million dollars.  The project received a $3 million Destination Iowa grant from the state, but the bulk of the funding is local, with $3-point-7 million dollars from the DRA and the remaining $8-point-8 million generated from the downtown tax-increment financing property tax fund.
