NICC Board of Trustees Approve New Athletics Programs

Northeast Iowa Community College will be fielding some athletic teams beginning next year.

This week, the NICC Board of Trustees approved five new sports teams to expand the NICC athletics program including baseball, softball, men’s and women’s cross country and dance.

A feasibility study explored the college’s ability to expand and sustain additional athletic programs. The study revealed that students want to attend a college with spirit on and off campus and not all student-athletes are ready for a four-year college.

The College took the first step in growing student athletic opportunities and hired Athletic Director Nick Weinmeister last spring. Since joining NICC, Weinmeister has researched cost, facilities, and equipment it would take.

The new athletic programs will start competing in August 2025.
