The City of Dubuque will be honored this week as Iowa’s 2024 Community of Character. According to a press release The Character Awards are from the Robert D. and Billie Ray Center at Drake University Dubuque is receiving the Community of Character Award for its continued commitment to creating a more equitable, resilient and sustainable city. The press release cites Dubuque’s efforts to recover from economic challenges of the 1980s with revitalization efforts on the riverfront, Millwork District, Chaplain Schmitt Island and the Bee Branch Watershed Flood Mitigation Project. An award ceremony will be held this Friday, August 2nd at The Meadows Events Center in Altoona, and a television special with the recipients also will be aired next week.
