The Wahlert High School Baseball and Softball Teams couldn’t take the next step to get to state championship games yesterday.

In the 3A semi-finals at the State Baseball Tournament in Cedar Rapids, a three run rally in the top of the 7th inning gave Sioux City Bishop Heelan a 6-3 victory over top seed Wahlert. After trailing the entire game the Golden Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the 6th to tie it up only to see the Crusaders double the score in the 7th. Wahlert had two on in the 7th, but couldn’t advance them home and bowed out at 34-10, while fourth-seeded Heelan (34-10) advanced to play third-seeded North Polk (28-6) in Friday’s state championship game.

In Fort Dodge in the 3A State Softball semi-finals 3rd ranked Wahlert couldn’t hold an early lead and fell 3-2 to 2nd ranked Williamsburg.

Wahlert (30-11), which was making its second consecutive state semifinal appearance, will play top-seeded Benton Community (32-8) on Friday in a third-place game.
