Case Closed In Dubuque County Homicide

DBQ Co Sherriff

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s office says they have officially closed their case in the murder of a woman in April.

The case involved 32-year old Tana Poppe who was found dead in a home near La Motte back on April 10th.

Following their three month investigation, the Sheriff’s Office says they received information from the State Medical Examiner that the firearm used by the murder suspect 37-year old Alexander Grunke to take his own life was the same weapon used in Poppe’s homicide and emphasized there is no danger to the public in the wake of the incident.

Grunke shot himself following a high speed pursuit with authorities in Wisconsin after barricading himself in a home in the Madison area.  Poppe’s 13-year old daughter also died of unknown causes after the vehicle he was driving became disabled.  A five month old child had been dropped off unharmed with an acquaintance of Grunke’s prior to the pursuit.
