Authorities in northwest Illinois say five Galena residents were injured when a vehicle went off the road near Galena.

The Jo Daviess County Sheriff say the crash happened around 5:30 on Friday evening on South Black Jack Road. Authorities say a vehicle driven by 28-year old Dylan Dupree was traveling south; at the same time a construction truck was starting to pull out from driveway. Investigators say due to the speed Dupree’s vehicle was traveling, he lost control and the vehicle went into the ditch and hit a tree.

Dupree and 24-year old Esmerelda Cabanas were taken to Midwest Medical Center in Galena. 35-year old Carmen Vargas was airlifted to U-W Madison Hospitals. The other two passengers 30-year old Dakota Harris and 20-year old Ava Papesh refused treatment at the scene.  The crash remains under investigation.
