Our coverage partner KCRG reports school bus drivers in Dubuque took to the picket lines yesterday, demanding higher wages and better working conditions.
Bus drivers for the Dubuque Community Schools District say school administration won’t negotiate with them at all, even though it’s a contract year.
The drivers told KCRG there’s already a shortage of school bus drivers, putting extra strain on the remaining busses. The drivers protesting worry if a better deal isn’t made, more drivers could leave, which would put even more pressure and potential expenses on the school district.
Union representatives said they plan on scheduling more protests in the coming weeks.
